Torres’ second defense of his titles, this was called the “1966 Fight of the Year” by Ring Magazine.
Torres and Cotton went 15 rounds and Torres won the win by unanimous decision. However, many in the crowd and press believed that Cotton had won. Nothing untoward was ever found about the decision, though, and Torres’ win stood.
The undercard that day: - Larry Buck vs. Johnny Cushman. In the first of their two meetings, Buck and Cushman fought to a draw. (Their second fight, in 1967, also ended in a draw.)
- Scott Wisooker vs. Charlie Hall. According to BoxRec.com, this fight was originally "announced as a win for Hall”, but “recalculation of the scorecards made Wisooker the winner". (They had a rematch ten days later at which time Wisooker received the win by unanimous decision.)
