  Continuing his almost 5 and a half year reign as world champion, Marvin Hagler successfully defended the middleweight title for the 11th time, defeating the Detroit "Hitman" Thomas Hearns by a technical knockout in the 3rd of the regulation 12.

  On the undercard, two Caribbean contenders demonstrated their skills, with the lightweight Cuban Irleis Perez rising over Pat "Lightfoot" Jefferson by unanimous decision after 10, while in a scheduled 8-rounder, the Dominican welterweight Luis Santana delivered only the 2nd loss suffered by Darrell Chambers on a TKO in the 3rd of what would be the last fight of Chambers' career.  In a 6-round light heavyweight contest between two promising young contenders, David Vedder could not stop the former amateur champion Ricky Womack, who earned his 4th win without a loss, yet in the long run Womack would defeat himself, while Vedder would contest the world title.  In his 3rd professional bout, the Canadian 1984 Olympic heavyweight silver medalist Willie DeWitt could not defeat his countryman Alex Williamson, nor Williamson DeWitt, as they battled to a 6-round draw.
