  With a triple bill of championships lined up, promoters Main Events promised a lively show of pugilistic action, featuring Oxnard, California’s “El Feroz” Fernando Vargas up against former world welterweight king (WBA 1994 – 1997) Ike Quartey, the Ghana “Bazooka” for the IBF light middleweight crown.   In his 4^th defense of the title since winning the honors from “Yori Boy” Campas in mid December of ’97, Vargas contained the Bazooka’s blasts and managed the distance to take a broadly scored victory by unanimous decision.   In the IBA bout, Antonio Diaz decked Ivan Robinson for a technical knockout in the 11^th, while in the USBA & NABA sanctioned title contest Jose Flores defeated Paul Vaden by unanimous decision.
