Though the heavyweight bout between Garcia and Quarry was scheduled, records do not reflect this match on the card of a regular Monday night of fights at the Garden.  The resurgent Shavers took less than a round of the 10 scheduled to handle the former world champion Ellis, earning his 45th win by a knock out.  Also battling in a 10-round affair, the promising younger of the Bobick brothers from Bowlus, Minnesota, Rodney (17-0-1), experienced the feel of the canvas during his 1st loss, this by the honor of the Argentine contender Gorosito.  The Italian middleweight  and future world champion Antuofermo defeated the excellent Panamanian Kid Durango when the 10-round bout was stopped in the 2nd because of swelling above the Kid's eye.  The next time the two would meet, in early October, would be the Kid's final fight.  The virgin New Yorker Velasquez's first outing would not end well after 4 rounds, as his novice opponent Daniels, with 1 win under his belt, made it 2, and would make it 3 a month later with another victory over Velasquez.
