Fight Re-scheduled for Jan. 21, 1969 World (WBC) Featherweight Championship Bugner, Joe vs. Vaughan, Rudoph Charles, Ralph vs. Whiter, Ivan (final) Terrell, Bernie vs. Casanova, Terry (final)
Fighting on January 21st of the next year, the French-immigrant Australian Famechon challenged the Cuban "Pocket Cassius Clay" for the world title and was triumphant at the end of their 15-round bout. On the undercard, the future world title contender, Hungarian-born British heavyweight Bugner beat Vaughan, a Caribbean boxer from Saint Kitts and Nevis, by a technical knock out in the 2nd. The British and Commonwealth champion at welterweight, West Ham's Charles took on a rival from Tooting and ended Whiter's career with a TKO in the 5th of the non-title 10-round match. The big stage can be a bit much for a novice, such as Casanova, in only his 3rd appearance as a pro, lost to the southpaw future Commonwealth welterweight championship contender Terrell, who improved his promising, perfect record to 6 wins, while Casanova called it a career. |
