Duffy, Professor John (Referee)
In the 1st bout between the two, April 27, 1892, at the Metropolitan, Johnny Van Heest knocked out George Siddon in the seventh round. In this affair at the Metro a month later, the "management ... fed the crowd on a variety show instead of bringing on the main event" (New Orleans Daily Picayune) and with the late start at 10pm, the boxers endured through the midnight hour, reaching 48 rounds by 1am, with no sign of decision in the favor of either. Professor John Duffy thought it best to call a draw, lessening the possible public ire for violating the "Sunday law." |
