This was the third time Antonio Inoki, a wrestler, had a match against a heavyweight boxer. The first two were against Muhamad Ali in 1976 and Karl Mildenberger in 1978. This time Leon Spinks would be his victim. Inoki pinned Spinks down in the eighth of twelve scheduled rounds and was declared the winner, though some said it looked staged.
