| Bantamweight Contest Referee: Professor John Duffy
This match was the first 1892 event for the Olympic Club. Tommy Callaghan (Newcastle, England) and Cal McCarthy (New Jersey, USA) faced off in a bantamweight "Scientific International Glove Contest!", as it was billed.
McCarthy was favored to win against Callaghan, who had only fought in the US once befroe. From the beginning, McCarthy seemed to dominate, finally knocking Callaghan out toward the end of the 14th round.
McCarthy would now face George Dixon for the title of bantamweight champion.
