This press pass could be from either the first or second fight between Matthew Saad Muhammad (USA) and John Conteh (UK) for the light heavyweight title. The first took place in August, 1979, and the second in March, 1980; both bouts were in Atlantic City, NJ, USA.
Saad Muhammad won both fights, in August by unanimous decision after 15 scheduled rounds and in March with a technical knockout in the fourth of 15 scheduled rounds.
On the March, 1980, undercard, future WBA bantamweight king “Joltin’” Jeff Chandler won the national crowns of the NABF and USBA against Puerto Rico’s Andres Hernandez. |
