The Detroit southpaw Chuck Davey, 4-time NCAA champion for Michigan State in 1943, 1946, 1947 and 1949, was undefeated as he entered his 10 round duel with the inimitable former world middleweight champion Rocky Graziano, most recently mastering Carmen Basilio for the 2^nd time.  The hard punching Rock was aging, and as the agile Davey avoided the blast of Graziano’s slower blows while striking his own, the Michigander built up the points to earn the unanimous decision.
