Headling the Friday night program at the Garden, Brooklyn-born "Bummy" Davis, so named for his preference for street brawling, knocked out "The Garfield Gunner" Tippy Larkin in the 5th of their 10-round bout.  Davis's public aggressiveness would cost his life in November of 1945, when he was gunned down preventing a robbery at a friend's bar in Brooklyn.  The undercard offered two solid 8-round contests, with the future lightweight champ Lew Jenkins, "The Sweetwater Swatter" up from Texas, stopping Billy Marquart, down from Winnipeg, Manitoba, in an exciting 3rd round that went back and forth before Jenkins decked the Canadian with a quick combination.  In the other longer match, Steve Dudas, out of Edgewater, defeated Paterson's Pat Comiskey in a duel between New Jersey heavyweights, though in their next meeting, Comiskey would triumph in a fight of the same span.  The trio of short contests, Big Apple bantamweight Rivera kayoed Queens' "Peanuts" Barbetta by a technical in the 1st, featherweight Eddie Palermo hammered Brooklyn's Davidson for the win over the short distance, but neither "Hi Ho" Silver nor Frankie Deris could prove himself superior in the battle of mighty mite Brooklynites, so each accepted the draw at the end of their 4.  Given more time, 8 rounds the next March at the Broadway Arena, the 2 would resolve things, though Silver would take only 4 to flatten his neighbor and earn the sure win.
