After a disappointment a month earlier when the contest between the Indianan terror Bud Taylor and New York's diminutive Tony Canzoneri was originally scheduled for the Coliseum in Chicago where Canzoneri did not appear, the two fierce bantams met in the Madhouse on Madison in March for a 10-round match to decide the NBA'w world title at the 118 pound mark. But referee Joe Choynski, former American champion 170 at himself before 1900 and the man who leveled Jack Johnson in Galveston in 1901, did not see sufficient distinction between the skills and endurance of either man after the distance and a draw was his decision. In the rematch in July held in Soldier Field, the Midwesterner prevailed. |
