Though Jake LaMotta was not involved in this Motor City show of middleweights, the Bronx Bull's presence was ever evident in the division during the war years.  The Detroit 160-pound class contender who would stand toe-to-toe with LaMotta for 30 fierce rounds over 3 combats, winning none, here Jimmy Edgar would bounce back from the 1st beating to handle the substitute "Milan Panther" at home in the Olympia to take his 19th in 20 events after 10 rounds with the Lombard.  The undefeated local middleweight Charley Hayes (8 - 0) would top the scorecard when all was settled after 10 with the equally unbowed U.S. Army boxing instructor, "Sergeant" Lou Woods (13 - 0), both of whom had LaMotta looming in their futures, to their misfortune.  Facing off in a pair of middling matches, middleweight Jack Hill, of downstate Bloomington, Illinois, earned his 1st professional win over Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania's light heavyweight Harold Hazlett by the scorecard, while Detroit's own Buster Peaks beat the 1-bout wonder Jack Robinson, taking his 1st victory from the ring with the official's decision.  Battling for the 2nd straight bout of both well-skilled Michigan journeymen's careers, again at the Olympia, Sam Hughes took the loss after 4, as Pete Mead evened the score between them, and the rubber match in December would then show Grand Rapid's Mead the better.  In the other short fights, local featherweight Pete Bolos schooled the rookie John Saputo to earn his 1st win, while a pair of obscure locals tried out the ring, with Cacio knocking out Stephanski in the 2nd of their mutual debut, and neither returned to try it again.
