Facing the undefeated Jimmy Hackney in the headliner at the Rainbo in Chicago on a Monday night of boxing, Buffalo's Tommy Maddox could not overcome the 1951 National AAU titlist at lightweight's agility and skill in the course of 8 frames, and Hackney, of little later note, left with his 10th win.  Meeting in a middling affair of 6 rounds, the Windy City's welter Johnny Brown took the win from the City of Brotherly Love's Al Hauser by decision.  In the better of the shorter fights on the card, Big Rapids, Michigan's marvelous lightweight novice southpaw Kenny Lane, future contender for world titles at light and light welter, schooled the rookie John Walls for 4 rounds before taking his 5th straight victory since debuting in Grand Rapids a month earlier.  In the other 4-rounder pairing of local small men, the single-bout veteran Crawford Adams, a featherweight, came out to show some skill in fashioning a draw with the bantam brilliant Gil Slater in the span slated.
